After further inspection, my ole road bike might need some work before it will be safe to ride. I'm not sure if it is my crash or just age that is getting to the old iron. This has been the cheapest bike I've ever owned. I've spent $100 on it in total cost. I'd like to keep it that way. The thing that keeps getting stuck in my head is going and just getting a new road bike.
Work Checklist:
- new rims or fix existing (spokes are coming apart)
- front derailer (fix or get new one)
- pedals (not clip in, but shoe cover ones)
- tires (back tire might need some new rubber)
What I've updated over the years:
- rear derailer (new shimano)
- seat (from old mountain bike)
- new grips
- tires
Cheers,
Bicycle rides in northwest Oklahoma City that can be done in a lunch hour.
I work in NW OKC around 50th and North May. I can rarely find the time to work out or exercise. So the best way that I found out to do so is to take rides during my lunch break.

Back in the saddle again... or Starting Over?
I couldn't think of a better theme so I will use both. After two weeks of down time I finally got the moment to get back on two wheels. Dang you crash! Dang you Ike! Dang you lots of work! (But thanks for my humility, some nice rain, and paying the bills :) )
Today I rode over to Will Rogers Park on my mountain bike. I did a 'make up your own
mountain bike' course today. I do not know if it constitutes for its own route, but I'm counting it!
Route #013
Distance: around 5 miles round trip (total guess)
Travel Time: 30 minutes
Level of Difficulty: (1:easy - 5:hard) 2 (because I almost fell on a root)

I went up and down the hills in the park and any ravine I thought I could make. There were a couple drops I didn't want to attempt.
Cheers,

Dang you Ike! ... and my shoulder/back...

I'm still hurting from going over the handlebars early last week. My shoulder and neck seem to have taken the blunt of the blow. I helped throw 85 bails of hay last weekend and that really messed up my shoulder. It felt horrible the next day. It is hard to pour my coffee in the morning with my right hand, let alone try and handle OKC traffic on two wheels.
No riding this week. It has either been Hurricane Ike or my shoulder that has kept me from riding. I'm going to blame Ike until I fell better though.
Its hard to post about riding when you haven't done any!!! I guess I should be working on my map. I still have yet to hear back from my request from Mapquest. One of the questions on the form I filled out asked for a deadline. My college technical writing class would say two weeks would be enough, but I gave Mapquest over a month just because I really, really want them to send a map of OKC.

Its not a crash unless you blackout!
I took route #005 today. I ran into some trouble around N. MacArthur and NW 60th. For everyone else's warning, they are doing construction on N. MacArthur.
Well, I should have been paying more attention to where I was going and I hit a pothole at a relatively slow speed but it still sent me over the handlebars today. I got a nice knock on my noggin' and I'll have to buy a new helmet. It cracked my helmet but didn't hurt my bike. My 35 year old road bike didn't have any bent rims or anything else. How could I ever get rid of this thing? I don't think I can!
I may be out for the rest of the week.
Cheers,
P.S. Yes, I finished the route instead of heading straight back to home base. :)
