First Ride of the Year

Last year I think my first ride of the year wasn't until January 21st; I rode the trail that follows the North Candian River along I-40.  I only got to ride 8 miles of it before I got a splinter flat.  My buddies had to pedal back to my truck and come pick me up.  I did jog another 3-4 miles back towards the truck before they picked me up.  But I have no idea if that jog distance was completely accurate.  I tend to lie about distances.

This year I got out on the 19th [sarcasm] beating my previous record [end sarcasm] by 2 whole days!  I went around Lake Hefner and back.  It felt good.  It was still good and cold and it even rained on me 1/2 of the ride.  The tights were nice.  My co-workers all approved that I looked stunning.  And even though it was raining I was not the only crazy person out around the lake.  I don't recall the temperature but I just had on tights, some mountain biking shorts, short sleave jersey, and no gloves (couldn't find'em that day).  Everything went great.  With the slight wind and slight rain I could have used a long sleave jersey but it was great.

Next year I'm shooting for 18th of January.  Year after that I'd like to do a January 1st ride.  HAHAHA!!  Can't overshoot it, ya know?

Tulsa to OKC 2010 MS Mother Road Ride

These long names remind me of the Office fun run: Michael Scott's Dunder-Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Fun Run Race for the Cure.  They say exactly what you are doing, where, when and why.  The series thankfully become an ever shorter name though.  "Yeah, I'm doin' Houston MS-150."  But riding Route 66 is just so much cooler to me.

I've signed up individually for the 2010 Bike MS Mother Road Ride.  You can make donation or sign-up and ride with me.  Even those willing to cheer from their offices are appreciated!  I just don't have a link for that...  :)

Cheers,

Sexy Pictures on the Really Tall Rock

When I went to Georgia for vacation I went to Cheaha State Park (pronounced: Chee-haw!).  We hiked the pit of trail they had and took some sexy pictures with the rocks.  No biking.  I should have dragged the bike out there.  But, I didn't think I could have gotten away from the family long enough for a ride.  Maybe next year when we are out there again.

*30 degrees in Alabama, you can still wear shorts

Winter Blues

I have horrible respiratory problems with cold winter air. I have to get those Z-packs a couple times a winter. Often instead of getting sick I'll just stay in and try to either do some Yoga or make sure I get to the gym. Well, I just got back from a 2 week vacation. I ran a few times and got to lift wieghts in a hotel gym once. But I feel the mid section squeezing a little into my dress pants every day.

I'm trying to think back to why I never got really sick when I was a kid living in Colorado. I lived in Colorado for a couple years and was outdoors EVERY DAY. I do not think I was ever sick. Is it the wind? Is it the temperature fluctuation? Is it old age? Is it because I'm NOT outside every day. And something hit me (My wife threw a pillow at my head). I remember that when I went snow skiing I always had a fleece wrap around my neck, ears and face. Maybe that kept the winter bugs away.

I've contracted/asked the wife to try her needle work skills to make me one. But if she does not meet my required deadline I'll just go buy a cheap substitute. I recently was reading an icebiking site that taked about nutjobs going out on frozen lakes and peddling. I'm not going to do that. But I wouldn't mind trying a single track with frozen ground a good layer of powder.

I was in Georgia on vacation when OK got dumped with snow. So I missed my opportunity. All I had on vacation was cold air, some raind and no snow. I talked myself out of taking the mountain bike because I thought the weather was going to be awful and I wouldn't have the time to properly get away from the family. I think it is good for me to miss a couple opportunities. It makes me hit it harder next time I'm out. Maybe this will prolong my interest in the hobby. :) I tend to jump hobbies pretty easy. In the past it has been; snow skiing, scuba, guitar, bass, several different bands (ska to emo to alternative rock to jazz), paintball, automotive rebuilding, to who knows what.

Happy pedalling,
